BACK N’ BLACK CALL TO ACTION

TAKING THE LEAD- Under the forward thinking new leadership of new Principal Blake Stein, McGill-Toolen has partnered with Bishop State Community College to institute a dual enrollment program beginning in 2027. Our very own Association Vice President Lyle Coleman is the Business Administration Chair at Bishop St. and is responsible for initiating the dialogue and process for the this phenomenal program our students are certain to benefit from immensely. Leading the actual implementation of the program will be yet another McT Black alum, LePret Dickinson Williams. Williams is the Coordinator of Early College Programs at Bishop St CC. Dual enrollment allows eligible high school students to receive college credit while satisfying requirements for their high school diploma. Students can jumpstart their college education at an accelerated pace while earning the attention of colleges and positioning themselves to earn maximum aid and scholarships!

Association’s Early Impact- Principal Stein has twice met with the McT BackN’ Black Alumni Association of his own volition. As Principal Stein transitions from principal to president, he personally appointed Carla Berry to the selection committee to interview and hire new principal John Jacob Poiroux. A board member has been asked to join the school’s all important advisory board. There has been a concerted outreach to increase enrollment among African American students including the administration hosting a community meeting at St. Francis Xavier Church. Association members Byron Fairley and Derrick Merriweather Sr. have founded the Krewe De Mone Frere, a Mardi Gras association of just McT Black male alumni. The Krewe will ride in the day parade on the last Monday in 2027. For more detailed information email Byron Fairley at byronfairley741@gmail.com
